The Determining the Appropriate Health Care Decision Maker has been updated. This guideline helps people understand who can make health care decisions for people who can’t make decisions for themselves. This guideline is to assist people to identify the most appropriate decision maker when some has impaired capacity and there is a need to appoint a decision maker using the Health Care Decision Making Act 2023.
What’s changed
Information has been added to the guideline to make sure that:
- Listening to the person: Making sure the person’s feelings about their relationships are considered when deciding if someone has a “close and continuing” relationship with them.
- Respecting their wishes: Using the person’s views to help decide who should make health care decisions for them.
You can find the guideline here: Determining the Appropriate Health Care Decision Maker Guideline.
