This year is the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Declaration says, “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
The OPG operates within a human rights framework, advocating and providing services to some of the most vulnerable people in the community. The principles of guardianship legislation ensure represented adults rights are upheld and have a strong voice in decision-making.
As a community we need to stand up for our own rights and those of others.

- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all.
- Human rights are relevant to all of us, every day.
- Our shared humanity is rooted in these universal values.
- Equality, justice and freedom prevent violence and sustain peace.
- Whenever and wherever humanity's values are abandoned, we all are at greater risk.
- We need to stand up for our rights and those of others.
