The Office of the Public Guardian is pleased to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make to our nation.
The Office of the Public Guardian would like to take the opportunity to thank all carers for taking on this critical role in our Northern Territory Community.
Some carers of people with impaired capacity also choose to be appointed as the person’s private guardian, but this is not always the case. Being a private guardian and being a carer are two very different but important roles.
Anyone at any time can become a carer and National Carers Week is an opportunity to raise community awareness among all Australians about the diversity of carers and their caring roles.
Carers make an enormous contribution to our communities as well as our national economy. Should all carers decide to stop performing their caring role, it would cost the country $60.3 billion per year to replace those supports – that’s over $1 billion per week.
National Carers Week provides us all with a chance to show your appreciation and learn about carers and caring in Australia.
National Carers Week is an initiative of Carers Australia, with primary activities funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Carers Australia organises and coordinates National Carers Week with the assistance and participation of the state and territory Carers Associations.
